There isn't much about <i>Borgman </i>that I can explain confidently, but the one thing that is unquestionable is, <i>Borgman </i>will divide audiences How evenly the sides stack up is what will land it as an inevitable cult classic, or a one-night-stand mind-fuck with no orgasm.</div>

We open with a group of villagers storming a nearby forest to kill a group of ground dwelling hobos. The search party fails to capture the mysterious vagabonds but they do uproot them from their treeforts and force them back into the bourgeois of modern Denmark. After a quick shower, costume change and properly formatted r<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; white-space: nowrap;">é</span>sum<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; white-space: nowrap;">é</span>, Borgman lands the job of new gardener (after he blow gunned the previous worker with a poisoned dart).</div>

Once situated on the property Borgman and company tear up the lawn, indulge ad hoc surgeries, sink some concrete bucket heads to the bottom of a lake, perform a musical play, and cap the week off by taking the surviving family members camping.</div>

Nay sayers will say it's not violent enough to be disturbing, inventive enough to be groundbreaking, or surreal enough to be thought-provoking while ans will celebrate the oft-underappreciated Scandinavian levity, the unsettling dark malevolent tones, it's prospect of a religious parable, and Stine, yes, god-bless Stine.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Michel (Laurent Lucas) is an online con-artist and sexual predator. Gloria (Lola Dueñas) is a morgue attendant with fear of abandonment and obsession/stalking issues. When the Internet chances them together on some sort of French-Match.com, a blind date turns into a lustful one-night stand and a unique offer, Michel never thought would have been possible, leads to a murderous trek of deceit, embroiled passion, and horrific violence.</div>

<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Loosely based on the murderous rampage of The Lonely Hearts Killers, and chaptered by individual marks (victims), <i>Alléliua </i>is an engrossing episode of unconditional love and unbridled obsession.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Each playing a part in the relationship's genesis and dissolution.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
And it's that relationship that will decide whether you dislike or love this film, as it requires your complete and absolute entrancement. For me, it was hypnotic. Du Welz' use of camera angles, set design, soundscore, gritty 16mm, and acute script set the stage for the leads, and they admirably knock it out of the park.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Du Welz favourite, Laurent Lucas is amazing as the womanizing charmer and slimy swindler, but gladly hands over the reins to the magnificent performance of Dueñas. She is marvelously bonkers. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With each chapter her unhinged jealousy increases until the inevitable finale proving love to be the most beautiful and destructive force on the planet.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This review has probably been the most arduous task I've endeavoured to complete yet. The Invitation is bad, really fuckin' bad. So bad I'm almost speechless. Let me break it down.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjef0muDT4VV3S3gxQAd2UDNgdc2XtYhEbLuhD0slCF5Ynlcf4doUFZTPViubpNbdjE6u6LB_22NptihfDSAmSBZv1Cyjhg9-BEjqKsXyeKH0uVaWximrpKy0BeYkhXh5JyU_fk1OmLEVM/s1600/Invitation+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjef0muDT4VV3S3gxQAd2UDNgdc2XtYhEbLuhD0slCF5Ynlcf4doUFZTPViubpNbdjE6u6LB_22NptihfDSAmSBZv1Cyjhg9-BEjqKsXyeKH0uVaWximrpKy0BeYkhXh5JyU_fk1OmLEVM/s320/Invitation+8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">"This is our recruitment, but not recruiting <i>you</i>, video"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Will and Kira are on their way to a dinner party with old friends they haven't seen for years. This is to exploit the recent successes of other dinner-party themed movies (see Cheap Thrills or Coherence). The last time they all met, Will was married to Eden (party co-host), and during their 5 year old son Ty's birthday party the kid somehow dies, ruining their marriage and disbanding their clique of imbeciles.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVyuak9_SDTdjr-M34NDx6JroFvFGUj3zSK8T9zASGckZMavxXzk7bbVwLw3rFu4qARzTyS1Rlibo2A9ECmhleeoKCL9OjYOXEFMiEW8IQ6lOH1JJ3M5ymaysktPfaPaeqyUN8cRQaBEs/s1600/Invitation+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVyuak9_SDTdjr-M34NDx6JroFvFGUj3zSK8T9zASGckZMavxXzk7bbVwLw3rFu4qARzTyS1Rlibo2A9ECmhleeoKCL9OjYOXEFMiEW8IQ6lOH1JJ3M5ymaysktPfaPaeqyUN8cRQaBEs/s320/Invitation+9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">"Hold your "center" like I'm going to hold my Oscar, Michiel" - Kusama.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Before arriving, Will hits a coyote and has to finish killing it with a tire iron. This is supposed to represent the misery in society and how it must be dealt with.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMCaUfGT39CZ1qkiU5yeViQGvXJG_5-GHE4uRXpz7R05otbAOWc-Brb6UGeV1z7wFf3N0-dljU8zyFQNSw4jDUX1JNTtrT9jOzb2PmxS4I7TuBU5Bh2wmrg_xjbTsuCE3YqfpKPj5GKi8/s1600/Invitation+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMCaUfGT39CZ1qkiU5yeViQGvXJG_5-GHE4uRXpz7R05otbAOWc-Brb6UGeV1z7wFf3N0-dljU8zyFQNSw4jDUX1JNTtrT9jOzb2PmxS4I7TuBU5Bh2wmrg_xjbTsuCE3YqfpKPj5GKi8/s320/Invitation+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After they arrive the old friends catch up, and we find out that not a single person, outside of Will, have any depth whatsoever. Unless you'd call our other co-host (David), who, along with Eden, have been spending most of their time in Mexico (healing) in a communion (cult) - David was a "coked-out music producer", as profound. Then, if you think the party couldn't get any lack of character, enter Pruitt! Played by the one (dimensional) hit wonder himself, the sinister and dead-panned face, Mr. John Carroll Lynch!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">"Make a happy face John, goooooood."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We learn Pruitt and a second stranger at the party are fellow friends from their Mexican sect, Will is a bit paranoid, David and Eden are waaaaay too happy and dislike shoes, and Choi is fuckin' late, A-gain! Fast forward 10 mins and a couple bottles of booze later, and David and Eden bring out their cult's recruitment video (the first subplot dead-end), which just happens to show another fellow member die of cancer. Yay, for dinner parties!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3TKd6GRiu3YO9fWfUrqekCUMjOc-I3d4hXIr3CCuFHeIuBZn3EI4xjtLcXkT7oQsgqvmD8CPTIU6CNuUDEEEwLdyCtW6O4SIxbEJ-wTovK0_d17xHKpan9f-ZA2MNIeSgjNn4Z-Dd1AM/s1600/Invitation+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3TKd6GRiu3YO9fWfUrqekCUMjOc-I3d4hXIr3CCuFHeIuBZn3EI4xjtLcXkT7oQsgqvmD8CPTIU6CNuUDEEEwLdyCtW6O4SIxbEJ-wTovK0_d17xHKpan9f-ZA2MNIeSgjNn4Z-Dd1AM/s320/Invitation+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Talk to the hand, David, I'm suspicious.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
David senses the disheartening of his guests and calls an audible, every dinner parties favourite tension breaker - a party game! Akin to "I've Never", they begin to play "I Want", where everyone gets to disclose a secret desire, without judgment, criticism, or harm. Eden wants to kiss Ben, Gina wants some coke, Tommy wants a blow job, poor little Ty didn't want to die, but then there wouldn't be a movie, wouldn't there Ty? And Pruitt wants to tell everyone about his wife, the one he beat to death in a drunken rage. Jackpot!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;">Dr. Joseph and Dr. Botox turned my grief into perma-puffy smile.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At this point any viewer who isn't retarded, braindead, or asleep can pinpoint the antagonists and realize something sinister is forthcoming. It's at this time director Karyn Kusama (from AeonFlux and Jennifer's Body fame) tries to further establish a lightly touched upon but far fetched idea that Will is so grief stricken and paranoid that only he's noticed the bars on the windows, the doors locked from the inside, David and Eden not inviting them to the cult and not wearing shoes, the gigantic pill container full of barbiturates, everyone acting just a tad bit on the cult-ish side, and Pruitt is fuckin' <u><i>John Carroll Lynch</i></u>! Our second subplot dead-end.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But let's forget all that because Choi showed up!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You'd think that this would be the time to build up Will's paranoia, but nope, Kusama thinks this is ample reason and a good enough time to reveal the mind-bending twist that David, Eden and Pruitt are going to kill them all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The long and drawn-out poisoned wine scene, catered by the neon sign of all string acoustics, coupled with the suspicious demeanour of the cultists, and Will's paranoid outburst is just comical.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The worst thing a bad movie can do is not reward your patience with a decent ending. But the payoff was less gory, less violent and less satisfying than the attempted build up would've demanded, if there was some. It was predictable, ignored the subtext of grief, passed-over an excellent opportunities (like really emphasizing Will's paranoia or reveal Pruitt to be a surprise hero), and nefariously dragged on too long.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
CREEP impregnates feelings of uncomfortableness that most make efforts to avoid. Those brave enough to endure the skincrawling descent have their level of commitment tested over and over as the tension and disturbed mystery that is Josef builds and builds until we're rewarded with one of the most climactic, yet almost slow motioned, denouement ever seen in a found-footage horror. It's hand-over-mouth shocking and can't look away hypnotic.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Over the last few years, throwbacks, retros, homages, call them what you will, are kinda sorta the new found footage of horror. And it's no surprise since the sub-genre has had its share of fairly successful installments, HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (2009), V/H/S (2012-2014), and <a href="http://fearfinder.blogspot.ca/2015/10/the-editor-2014.html" target="_blank">THE EDITOR (2014)</a> to name just a few. But most can't hold a candle to the good ones, and stack up even worse than the actual 35 year old films they're trying to nod to. But LAKE NOWHERE should be proud to land somewhere in the middle.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK3tnJd0OMMaly1dSkBhrPT43JxEuCKRzNfpR8m7CVwZ_dcd9xqOTvrBbXrLdSPGvOB-vRCiKMZOsE7-q88KUts2TjxMjWLVfrNdKFzm8BeG1eplwQsxp4CJHDQVxmm65InwxwnS8jtDU/s1600/LN3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK3tnJd0OMMaly1dSkBhrPT43JxEuCKRzNfpR8m7CVwZ_dcd9xqOTvrBbXrLdSPGvOB-vRCiKMZOsE7-q88KUts2TjxMjWLVfrNdKFzm8BeG1eplwQsxp4CJHDQVxmm65InwxwnS8jtDU/s320/LN3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A group of 20-somethings arrive at a family cottage for some weekend R&R and B&B (boozin' and bangin'). It isn't long before one friend goes skinny dippin', a second hangs a clothesline, a couple play around with a revolver, and another discovers an oddly placed cemetery where one read-aloud epitaph invokes a savage mask-wearing lake demon. Drinks are drank, tokes are toked, kids are killed and we all get to see the most instantly-legendary party game involving only a brown paper bag.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt76lpXnvjtnPLBaGgaLAzLUOmHsMxJ_JgkK72JZI5yFWw4wnn8ipLs-2_Q_qUUJrllCalae3Mb4AjNVnJGUCASyY1w1C9IFMj1zI1QxfTgYCusXf7duHMzbsK9REVWwE8VzLXEIPdU3c/s1600/LN1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt76lpXnvjtnPLBaGgaLAzLUOmHsMxJ_JgkK72JZI5yFWw4wnn8ipLs-2_Q_qUUJrllCalae3Mb4AjNVnJGUCASyY1w1C9IFMj1zI1QxfTgYCusXf7duHMzbsK9REVWwE8VzLXEIPdU3c/s320/LN1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Filmmakers Christopher Phelps and Maxim Van Scoy hit the 80's slasher formula nail right on the head. From the synth score, ensemble cast, respectable body count, blood in buckets, and various bladed murder weapons to the premarital sex and inability to escape an out-runnable masked killer. Equally impressive were their disinterest in heavily leaning on satirical humor or trying to overcorrect the typical slasher misgivings.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9tI2lcoeaakqTqZiltgJFQQPpKoC_dHg1PZOeq0_2-6AhDvc0UNeWZ-Vt18drmoUzCgPUP1m9_K_eByHROc3x9BZdUp4k9v_5oZiNUzEGrxQOVIxjX7fbttCVHJvAFxWNKT6F45Ga9uA/s1600/LN4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="169" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9tI2lcoeaakqTqZiltgJFQQPpKoC_dHg1PZOeq0_2-6AhDvc0UNeWZ-Vt18drmoUzCgPUP1m9_K_eByHROc3x9BZdUp4k9v_5oZiNUzEGrxQOVIxjX7fbttCVHJvAFxWNKT6F45Ga9uA/s320/LN4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
LAKE NOWHERE isn't without flaws. The killer is laughably amateurish looking and almost non-scary and it's kills are uninspiringly unoriginal, although violent and bloody enough. But what do you expect on a 1 paycheck budget, shot over 6 days with friends and family?!?!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpojh_WwiQbfS3gJzCL6R8FdgIgFhKq2rNWfYV9uMEqMdj9yWAjsD1Np5l9N1_0NKwEGQUfahPpvgOIUvQvHvAxLeNN1u9OMahBGjBYCzmuwBE1JpUAjONceccygeIjSFU6F6zhu5dNTw/s1600/LN5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="174" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpojh_WwiQbfS3gJzCL6R8FdgIgFhKq2rNWfYV9uMEqMdj9yWAjsD1Np5l9N1_0NKwEGQUfahPpvgOIUvQvHvAxLeNN1u9OMahBGjBYCzmuwBE1JpUAjONceccygeIjSFU6F6zhu5dNTw/s320/LN5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
LAKE NOWHERE isn't for every horror fan, hell, it isn't even for every slasher fan. But there's a handful that will fall in love with this little engine that could. And hopefully those few will be enough to give Phelps and Van Scoy the resources for a feature-length debut.</div>

The documentary goes through the early stages of the condition, how it progresses, and what the afflicted have done to lessen the episodes. Each segment ends with a visual fictional interpretation, which I've been told that some find extremely scary.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
But I really can't figure out what's scary about metaphysical creatures showing up in someone's bedroom and not doing anything...sure there was one guy who claimed a stuffed toy vending machine claw grabbed his dick and the fat girl assured us that she was demon raped...yet didn't feel a thing...to me it just sounds like someone forgot to do their kegels after a 6 month relationship with a BBD.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The subjects themselves, outside of 1, seem incredibly discreditable. So I can't fathom how anyone would find this believable. Especially when most were self-diagnosed by the internet, and the commonalities (red eyes, figure with a hat, shadowy beings) of the beings visiting them could entirely be group influenced.</div>

It has been 10 years since a home invasion horror captivated me so intensely, when ILS (2006) used its set pieces, mysterious antagonists, and rural setting so effectively that it made nights alone at the cottage almost pathetically unbearable. Nights were scary, mysterious unmotivated killers were scary and silence was scary, and HUSH takes the latter to its limits.</div>

Maddie is deaf mute living on her own in a secluded cabin while she completes her next big suspense novel. What seemed like an ordinary day turns into a hellish night when a killer arrives and choose her for his next game of cat and mouse.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0LNpQzpwm12FLFBMXr4J0SnE674P1H96QCgODjpScowWG5zZg1X77lEew7xLqcmIbfDvqzxMFEtPlUKvqdPfWsKntwyLGDg-gMVakJNVH22joouJJGxBb_BrzFnDKCthhSpHUssmAbBE/s1600/Hush+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="138" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0LNpQzpwm12FLFBMXr4J0SnE674P1H96QCgODjpScowWG5zZg1X77lEew7xLqcmIbfDvqzxMFEtPlUKvqdPfWsKntwyLGDg-gMVakJNVH22joouJJGxBb_BrzFnDKCthhSpHUssmAbBE/s320/Hush+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
HUSH opens with a quick synopsis of the life of a deaf mute but actually does this is a very non-cliche and non-forced way. Director/writer Mike Flanagan could have easily and unknowingly fell victim to the "gimmick opening", where filmmakers use the opening scenes to explain and describe the set of parameters the movies characters will be limited by, or a summation scene like STAR WARS's opening crawl text. But instead he uses intense sounds and zoomed-in visuals to create the world of deaf mute, not unlike the brilliant opening of television's DEXTER. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgN_6SHKrggiYuUkBRWhB7MjYODo2E0XqJvQaJN0xZxNmr70DpsK40CC87eTzpmD4ak7sfkaLCygpz4w437oUZ-HuEet7THACIMHhxQykItrwbGxYa1lefSbBAFQUdfQ5kzuM4Y0Lj-uQ/s1600/Hush+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="138" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgN_6SHKrggiYuUkBRWhB7MjYODo2E0XqJvQaJN0xZxNmr70DpsK40CC87eTzpmD4ak7sfkaLCygpz4w437oUZ-HuEet7THACIMHhxQykItrwbGxYa1lefSbBAFQUdfQ5kzuM4Y0Lj-uQ/s320/Hush+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
HUSH comes in at a lean 81 minutes and 70 of those minutes is an edge-of-your-seat, heart-pounding thrill ride full of intense scares, unexpected twists, changing upper hands, and ultra-real resolve. At no point did the film use the characters disability as a crutch in which the suspense depended on, it only built from it. Nor did it seem like a film trying to exploit a gimmick. It all just seemed a part of the package.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
[Spoiler Start] One knock on HUSH was the shockingly early unmasking of our masked killer. And I've toiled with the would I have or wouldn't I have if I was at the film's helm. But I think Flanagan does this on purpose, not knowing the identity of our killer would be playing on the minds of viewers until that moment he's revealed, and what a let down that would be to find out he's no one. I'm sure unmasking him early took a little less scare out of "The Man" but if it took a lot of risk out of the inevitable letdown viewers would have felt having him without a backstory it was worth the cost.[Spoiler End]</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Although not any small component of Brian O'Malley's feature length debut, <i>Let Us Prey</i>, is Earth shatteringly great, it's a complete and genuinely satisfying package of gore and blood, gripping tension, interesting story and capable cast.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXQCNnz12NYRkCAKlXDSsBStDYS8GAt5Y5cN-rEHqspAywmz3bjGpw4B-4waCyk12CjCvzzdGXBd8Jh2I4P5o3MPxI1FPJ2oRJ_3iYcoSok7rx6Sx4CyKIn3YvQGofHR1oiR0XL2FQktg/s1600/LUP+-+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="131" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXQCNnz12NYRkCAKlXDSsBStDYS8GAt5Y5cN-rEHqspAywmz3bjGpw4B-4waCyk12CjCvzzdGXBd8Jh2I4P5o3MPxI1FPJ2oRJ_3iYcoSok7rx6Sx4CyKIn3YvQGofHR1oiR0XL2FQktg/s320/LUP+-+2.jpg" width="320"></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In a town where it seems every criminal, citizen and police officer is a murderer, a Grim Reaper-like figure arrives to ensure "that the price of our sins is paid for in blood". A first day on the job officer is left to piece together the mystery of the entity and the darkest secrets of everyone in the station.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUDj5M_trAK9PYO-RH0S03ErvsSPLV7_zzRXj0ltUz-RNq4x09Cs8NvZizkD-JscMrfZwLFQR_-nTgmHe47hvT-2GKlYIGV-k8ExoaVs4xedcDzU7gLDtQqgVSdjHLRtCXXr54grkLOYA/s1600/LUP+-+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUDj5M_trAK9PYO-RH0S03ErvsSPLV7_zzRXj0ltUz-RNq4x09Cs8NvZizkD-JscMrfZwLFQR_-nTgmHe47hvT-2GKlYIGV-k8ExoaVs4xedcDzU7gLDtQqgVSdjHLRtCXXr54grkLOYA/s320/LUP+-+4.jpg" width="320"></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Possibly describable as <i>Assault On Precinct 13 (1976) </i>where the terror is actually <i>inside </i>the police station, <i>Let Us Prey</i> was a treat to watch. O'Malley knows how to build the characters, pace the story, and put the foot down on the gas pedal when necessary; not to mention how to deliver some truly epic level kills.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBITGd-suZ3rXTvbvAgI92j8nQl6KC504OswifT7MG91DqszlRRQhtGfaqu2g057wF8jG-dozp_Wvsxkg_R1c1voB0ltGA2euz7Fw7D4n2O7KBdEO5Tq_CmqyFNbAG-zNE5odrbHPsADw/s1600/LUP+-+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="128" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBITGd-suZ3rXTvbvAgI92j8nQl6KC504OswifT7MG91DqszlRRQhtGfaqu2g057wF8jG-dozp_Wvsxkg_R1c1voB0ltGA2euz7Fw7D4n2O7KBdEO5Tq_CmqyFNbAG-zNE5odrbHPsADw/s320/LUP+-+3.jpg" width="320"></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Despite all of the entertainment value of <i>Let Us Prey</i>, it's a shallow pool of water. There is little to no originality, and nothing presented or hinted at outside of the narrative. But sometimes that's all a horror film needs to be, entertaining. So if you can shut your brain off, handle a healthy dose of violent death, and swallow a truly absurd ending <i>Let Us Prey</i> is totally worth spending an hour and a half on.</div>

While away at school Jessica studies within the field of psychophysiology with an emphasis on lucid dreams (dreaming while being aware that you're dreaming), an interest prompted by her lifelong troubles of inescapable nightmares. At the request of her mother, Jessica returns home for the first time in 3 years to attend the wake of her late grandmother. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Possibly provoked by longstanding questions surrounding the mystery of her biological father and a strained relationship with her mother Jessica becomes feverishly ill and her nightmares worsen. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When her lucid dreams begin the to suggest answers to her deeply embedded family mysteries she's lead toward a downward spiral where dreams and reality intertwine and things buried become uprooted.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If <i>Argento</i>-ish color, visual artistry, gallons of blood, and a pulsing score were the only ingredients needed for an epic horror <b><span style="color: red;">The Strange Color Of Your Body's Tears (2013)</span></b> wouldn't have been a complete failure. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But <b><span style="color: red;">Horsehead</span> </b>is drunk with symbolism, proposes more questions than answers, and the score's more disruptive than menacing. No matter how many creepy stepdads, incestual imaginings, It's a classic case of style over substance. </div>

Everyone has heard the quip, "jack of all trades, master of none", but many wouldn't realize it'd be an actual compliment when throwing it at a horror film. Yes, most of the "masters" are long gone (RIP Wes Craven), but being a jack is pretty solid, and being a jack in all aspects of a horror film is pretty bad ass, let alone it being from a first-time director, writer, editor, actor...err...ok, so he didn't act, but I bet he even prepared the small sandwiches table for the actors. </div>

Kylie Bicknell is a rebellious hellion living the life of late teen crime, when an ATM robbery goes bad, and she ends up being sentenced to house arrest at Ma and Pa's house, a couple seemingly pulled right out of a J&E Coen's <b><i>Fargo </i></b>script, and things aren't all right in the old and creaky abode.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you've never seen a time loop flick before, you'll probably be drooling over <i>Triangle</i>. But for those well versed in this psychological mind fuck gag it's just another ripoff. <i>Triangle</i> ripped off <a href="http://fearfinder.blogspot.com/2009/03/timecrimes-2007.html" target="_blank"><i>Timecrimes (2007)</i></a>, which ripped off <i>Salvage (2006)</i>, which ripped off <i>Primer (2004)</i>, which ripped off <i>Run Lola Run (1998)</i>, which ripped off <i>Groundhog Day (1993)</i>. Now if only <i>Groundhog Day</i> ripped off <i>Triangle</i>...miiiiiiiiiind, bloooooooown (pakeww!). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now, I'm not saying the time loop gag is overdone, or can't be successful, it can...clearly...as every film I mentioned above I'd call a helluva good movie. Unfortunately, that's all of them except <i>Triangle</i>. Why? <i>Triangle</i> is about as scary as <i>Groundhog Day.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Triangle</i> had a card to play, in a hand all too often played, and it folded. Besides <i>Salvage</i>, none of its time loop predecessors had the horror card up its sleeve, the cinematic Ace of Spades, and that's where <i>Triangle</i> falters. It's a horror film, where the only actual horror, is the fear of the time loop itself.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Perhaps not a "<i>horror</i>" in its purest summation,<i><span style="color: red;"> Blue Ruin</span></i> is as terrifying and hands over your face scary as any recent jump-scare ghost flick, <i><span style="color: red;">The Conjuring</span></i> and <span style="color: red;"><i>We Are Still Here</i></span> included. Add in some bursting-flesh bullet kills and foot on the pedal pacing, it could rival any of the recent ultra-violent crime thrillers as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The homeless and mentally scarred son learns the killer of his parents is being let out of prison via plea deal, and well holy shit he just won't stand for that. And <i>that's </i>literally <i>all </i>I'm going to tell you about the plot. I'd even advise you to skip the trailer...the least you know going in, the better.</div>

For many horror fans Bobcat Goldthwait's name won't ring any sort of bell, but for many of us on the scarier side of 30yr old it rings loud and clear. So when I see a film being advertised as "the first horror written and directed" by "Zed", from <i>Police Academy</i> fame, it's clearly a must-see.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Told via found footage,<i>Willow Creek</i> tells the tale of a two twenty-somethings fresh out of the city, on a documented adventure exploring the folklore and mystery of Bigfoot. Along the way they stop in a small touristy town, drowned in Bigfoot dollars, meeting both believers and non-believers.<br />

The slow, albeit humorous, lead up outside of the woods is well done and purposeful. We find out our two protagonists are likeable and relatable, both equally vital and necessary to carry our viewers through the arduous journey these two will be taken.<br />

Having left the comforts and hilarity of the small town the two make their way deep into the woods, where the only "confirmed" evidence of the giant biped was filmed. When the couple finally stop to camp and the sun goes down, <i>Willow Creek</i> and Goldthwait make themselves memorable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
For what must be a painstaking 20min long, unedited and uninterrupted scene, shot within their tent, with only the actors portrayed fear and terrifying formulaic sounds found outside the thin nylon structure to carry itself is...incredible. With every tree knock, twig snap, grunt and groan, coming closer...and closer...it's truly a <i>behind-the-couch</i> moment in horror that I won't soon forget.<br />

From then on Goldthwait continues with the less-is-more formula and teases us with a horrifying climax that never comes. And it is that, that Bobcat missed his opportunity to do something really special. He put his lure in the water, we bit as expected, he tugged and reeled us closer to the boat but before he can net us, he cuts the line. Intended or not, I'm not sure, but it was disappointment nonetheless.<br />

<br />
Garbage.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From it's idiotic opening scene all the way to it's laughable <span style="text-align: start;">clichéd </span>ending, <i>Nurse 3D</i> is an overt cult hit wannabe. But despite plenty of nudity, more than it's fair share of gore, and dark comedic undertones, <i>Nurse 3D</i> manages to swing and miss at every pitch, and is more insult than injury to any self-respecting horror fan.<br />
<br />
Let's find out why...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT4nmI3CmpM4rQdNMo9ONiBY9I0cS5rYYfmpvfwdENA7dTSWrLGhUANxM91o24q2s6kPsTgDq7QYNO5Xa5U_NCHGVje_5wAwIY2SIq96u8I3te3BGdasOOaXoHvpH6CtyjYaifqx0C8VA/s1600/Nurse+-+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="148" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT4nmI3CmpM4rQdNMo9ONiBY9I0cS5rYYfmpvfwdENA7dTSWrLGhUANxM91o24q2s6kPsTgDq7QYNO5Xa5U_NCHGVje_5wAwIY2SIq96u8I3te3BGdasOOaXoHvpH6CtyjYaifqx0C8VA/s1600/Nurse+-+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Paz de la Huerta isn't sexy, and even further away from alluring. Maybe from the neck down, or if she doesn't speak, but in no other way is she either. And <i>Nurse 3D</i> exemplifies her punch-drunk acting and her drunk-punched face almost continuously and ineptly. Both, in which, are bad.<br />
<br />
Maybe the winning formula would've been less this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU83yhW-zmgJot2vKxPGVRBesmUvu9w5hxhX6Txa7h8w5cMyZ9IXCTbq1bLq10C-UUPcOk7VEimKsQuJO13GNi1buJUAEvy0wGamZiTjurtS2EMis_l5z6UNRAGRKclqlaKvyMRWYfsvo/s1600/Nurse+-+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU83yhW-zmgJot2vKxPGVRBesmUvu9w5hxhX6Txa7h8w5cMyZ9IXCTbq1bLq10C-UUPcOk7VEimKsQuJO13GNi1buJUAEvy0wGamZiTjurtS2EMis_l5z6UNRAGRKclqlaKvyMRWYfsvo/s1600/Nurse+-+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's attempts at dark humor come off inane and forced. "My schedule's been murder." So was watching this drivel, Abby. An equally failed attempt at a back story just adds minutes to the film, not the intended explanation of a believable motive.</div>

Everyone knows the old adage, "patience is a virtue", but in some of my favourite long-winded horrors I tend to preach to those often bored and fidgety in such predicaments, "patience...and they'll hurt you", and so is the case for one of 2014's best horrors <i>Starry Eyes</i>.</div>

Sarah is a struggling actress trying not to "blend into the sea of thousands of forgotten girls" who aren't even <i>cast </i>aside, let alone given the leading role. In between auditions she hangs out with equally untalented friends, courts an eligible van-living love interest, holds down the coveted "Tater's girl" moniker and pulls out clumps of her own hair if things don't go her way. Throw in the Satanic cult out of left field a la <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1172994/"><i>House of the Dead</i> [2009]</a> and we 're in for one hell of a finale!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Starry Eyes</i> is a perfect blend of 70's b-movie devil horror and modern day gore-porn. For the better part of an hour the filmmakers brilliantly trek us down a satirical tale of acting in Hollywood, and the descent of madness and desperation it's victims are succumb to. And when that desperation turns to sacrifice <i>Starry Eyes</i> goes full gangbusters and pulls no punches in a violent and bloody drenching finale that will shock and gut-punch any horror fan.</div>

<b>FOUND. [2012]</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimBYRIJcxxM7MyawZkKIYuo4dRjuwRie3RDlPNdtkoICh7zkubLruswOV3xkh8UYZiddREJGboUwcWdSC9PT_XrzzWSIDu1ubvtoOUPG4KBbX2uTdu1eG27p7fVg-8aGsUabLLHl6b44g/s1600/Found+-+Poster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimBYRIJcxxM7MyawZkKIYuo4dRjuwRie3RDlPNdtkoICh7zkubLruswOV3xkh8UYZiddREJGboUwcWdSC9PT_XrzzWSIDu1ubvtoOUPG4KBbX2uTdu1eG27p7fVg-8aGsUabLLHl6b44g/s1600/Found+-+Poster.jpg" height="320" width="216" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Found</i>. is a gripping and visceral coming-of-age story that will resonate with you long after its over. Not since <i><a href="http://fearfinder.blogspot.ca/2008/09/martyrs-2008.html">Martyrs [2008]</a> </i>has a horror film lingered within me, demanding extended time for complete and proper digestion. And what I've been left with is absolute horror gratification.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjov3UtJjuTdF3ZtT7BwwBfEr26ugASZ9HWIRzpHSz5Rc4km9VWfd34OnzK76A9b7P-Y2SyjsD_tKCfZEPwhuGh0dB3d2z1IpqeR-SaBUmAO_6ybV1W9WRbKMyxxvfv3cuCoemqRkoeJys/s1600/Found+-+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjov3UtJjuTdF3ZtT7BwwBfEr26ugASZ9HWIRzpHSz5Rc4km9VWfd34OnzK76A9b7P-Y2SyjsD_tKCfZEPwhuGh0dB3d2z1IpqeR-SaBUmAO_6ybV1W9WRbKMyxxvfv3cuCoemqRkoeJys/s1600/Found+-+2.jpg" height="135" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Marty is a 12-year old child dealing with the full gamut of the banes of adolescence: bullying, racism, family issues, abuse, self searching, sexuality. And if that wasn't enough, Marty discovers his older brother, who's just beyond that all important age gap for siblings to have any symbiotic relationship, is a serial killer. As cheesy as that last detail sounds, <i>Found</i>. is anything but cheesy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQf8QzfhAgs3aG8lAbpDYrI2a8xhZDSDqYY8xxfgGWKsYG6JS8imH1tfNackS4gtjP-2nAHp_UxYUVtie-Z_BL95MPtxfdbk4Kg8eXx2RJmsX0r0DdWFBNBMsm3rfbOzNY7mRu3RqSM4k/s1600/Found+-+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQf8QzfhAgs3aG8lAbpDYrI2a8xhZDSDqYY8xxfgGWKsYG6JS8imH1tfNackS4gtjP-2nAHp_UxYUVtie-Z_BL95MPtxfdbk4Kg8eXx2RJmsX0r0DdWFBNBMsm3rfbOzNY7mRu3RqSM4k/s1600/Found+-+4.jpg" height="134" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Found</i>. is powerful and emotionally draining, with sincere, honest and thought provoking themes. All credit goes to the performances of the on-screen brothers, excellent direction by first time captain at the helm, Scott Schirmer and very able sound and photography crew. Further credit goes to the production staff for their work with amateur equipment and a budget under $10,000. But back to the performances.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVHYpBhIwt0A13D-r1IBLrYYXa5jTyFHeldF4jfnEAimQoQXf1L9kxqGCiJsHSOfLmGu-n267NEPsde-0fR3LQyEB5vMFpnrtNuN3E8R2Qu0_L9tMIK2YXYm5wuAm3Linvpub8d5wWOgg/s1600/Found+-+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVHYpBhIwt0A13D-r1IBLrYYXa5jTyFHeldF4jfnEAimQoQXf1L9kxqGCiJsHSOfLmGu-n267NEPsde-0fR3LQyEB5vMFpnrtNuN3E8R2Qu0_L9tMIK2YXYm5wuAm3Linvpub8d5wWOgg/s1600/Found+-+5.jpg" height="133" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Any film with a leading actor under the legal age to drive, the end result will solely depend on the child's ability to carry the film, and actor Gavin Brown (Marty) quite simply owned <i>Found</i>. Not only was Brown believable, but he evoked feelings of sympathy, caring and understanding. Ever his equal was Ethan Philbeck who plays the role of older brother and serial killer, Steve. Their scenes together were fantastic.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSyeVb40ZNcTt3wNrM3Kz8C8uZ5xWG1rOqfplm4PcJXsELZTbUNGYDQOm4MVTUQRvfgQKmk-VBn4Qt99AxJuGMgGAC7OjiTzQ0uDAJ20jadHHd4nqKy42qouN-rv5-QobJ6YLORL1ayX8/s1600/Found+-+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSyeVb40ZNcTt3wNrM3Kz8C8uZ5xWG1rOqfplm4PcJXsELZTbUNGYDQOm4MVTUQRvfgQKmk-VBn4Qt99AxJuGMgGAC7OjiTzQ0uDAJ20jadHHd4nqKy42qouN-rv5-QobJ6YLORL1ayX8/s1600/Found+-+3.jpg" height="134" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not without faults, outside of Brown and Philbeck, most performances in <i>Found</i>. were forced and distracting, but at least short in duration, so as to not detract anything from the overall value of the film. The fake film <i>"Headless" </i>shown during the film seemed out of place, inconsistent and unnecessary, considering the mostly implied violence of the climactic ending and general tone.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhegpd78rZeUaaJh9iXZDfwGyrjMtxDrjtaAtqRhyphenhyphenqHiP7B50LK6ht-eymLcJAk1h_DpCLsWA5Qj2XTSC-1d6kSVzcVSp64XHRLYE2lAUX-PFgjqetZd3Dm3K0qCF-3PlQBPxbmEjAMDSs/s1600/Found+-+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhegpd78rZeUaaJh9iXZDfwGyrjMtxDrjtaAtqRhyphenhyphenqHiP7B50LK6ht-eymLcJAk1h_DpCLsWA5Qj2XTSC-1d6kSVzcVSp64XHRLYE2lAUX-PFgjqetZd3Dm3K0qCF-3PlQBPxbmEjAMDSs/s1600/Found+-+1.jpg" height="140" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Found</i>. does so well what other indie horrors don't even dare to pursue. It has shock without exploitation, depth without loss, and meaning without complication. Fantastic horror.</div>

Three years and FearFinder is back? Why? Well the kids are getting older, giving me more time, and I heard <i>The Babadook</i> was so good it would drag me back to bloggin'. So was it? Well let's find out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn4dojZzEP8vHRYXTLRCFcucz5HC5rN9s0X59FdwTu4Ptx1CbvLpPH-Fn8FNRaprTeLCayw5azxJbg5Lx5pE0nxe-eh3BuXzdjA6WZdi3uWKQoDP8ctFlsUtmnWu_H6R9JBVulRf_NHIE/s1600/Babadook+-+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn4dojZzEP8vHRYXTLRCFcucz5HC5rN9s0X59FdwTu4Ptx1CbvLpPH-Fn8FNRaprTeLCayw5azxJbg5Lx5pE0nxe-eh3BuXzdjA6WZdi3uWKQoDP8ctFlsUtmnWu_H6R9JBVulRf_NHIE/s1600/Babadook+-+2.jpg" height="156" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're introduced to Amelia and Samuel, a mother and son interesting enough to cheer for, but also annoying enough to root root root for The Babadook-dook-dook. Samuel is part RedRum and part Bobby from<i> House By The Cemetery</i> ie you want to punch him in the face and give him a hug all at the same time. But he dabbles in amateur magic and medieval weaponry so he's all good in my books.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Samuel gets kicked out of school for bringing in his home made dart shooter and Amelia decides to call in sick for paranormalghost-a-sitis. So the two decide to camp-in in their 3 bedroom 2-story with modern melancholy grey decor and hope someone else fixes their life problems. Enter The Babadook.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

What is the Babadook? Couldn't tell you. We got no back-story, no explanation, and no rhyme or reason of why this character shows up besides 10 pages of a poorly drawn pencil doodles. The book just shows up on Samuel's book case amongst the Dr. Seuss and Robert Munsch collections and decides to fuck these fuckers up.</div>

For the next 30mins The Babadook gives a few decent scares but ends without a satisfying climax, not even Amelia could climax, sorry honey, you need to put a lock on that bedroom door. It was like cinematic blue balls. </div>

Don't get me wrong. The Babadook is a good movie. In fact, it's <i>very </i>good movie. The photography is spot on, dark and unsettling, the sets are atmospheric and dreary. It's a well constructed film; written brilliantly, acted professionally, and confidently executed. It's just not a great horror film. </div>

This time around I've had an unhealthy addiction to the Olympics, compounded by the misfortune of yet another RRSP season, and the snowballing demands of a pregnant wife. Oh the trials and tribulations of growing up! I promise I'll get to finishing the ever intriguing filmology of Eric Stanze and then start bangin' out posts again. <p>All that aside, I HAD to post this email I received this morning...why would I <em>not</em> join in on the naked and gory fun of a Franco film?!?!?! </p><p><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaWYWMpTbZth9r-E8MAzQi5ZXdSf1_pfxjRnzMcB-RQOebXa4qFnCWUFW44JpQW8IdVDH1dXyVs2DxiHdkoRqOn-r9y_25QfcwRU07wzVuUZxx8j-m8ZhkDJdLsiIzudpgNk3QemcvOUk/s320/vampyria.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441806903047706802" /></p><p><br /></p>Fear Finderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07028826156118411361noreply@blogger.com6
